UML claims majority for govt formation

CPN-UML on Saturday announced that it has garnered majority in the Constituent Assembly (CA) to form the new government. UML Secretary Shanker Pokharel, the UML has the support of 307 lawmakers, which include those who signed for them and the parties that have agreed in principle.

Pokhrel claims that Nepal Majdoor and Kisan Party (NMKP) with five CA seats and Rastriya Prajatantra Praty-Nepal (RPP-N) with four have shown positive signs for their support.

Likewise, Sarita Giri-led Sadbhawana Party, Dalit Janajati Party and independent lawmakers have also come in favour of the UML alliance, he added.Tarai Madhesh Loktantrik Party (TMLP) and Sadbhavana Party (SP) of the United Democratic Madhesh Front have already submitted 21 and nine signatures respectively.

The third largest party in the CA, UML is preparing to submit the signatures to the House Speaker on Monday.
